This policy explains what information Snow Day Calculator (“we”, “us”) collects when you use this website and the snow day calculator, and how it is used.
Information you enter in the calculator
The ZIP code, city or location you enter is processed in your browser. To build a forecast, your browser sends that ZIP code or city to a geocoding service (api.zippopotam.us or OpenStreetMap Nominatim) and the resulting coordinates to the US National Weather Service API (api.weather.gov). We do not store this information on our servers. Your last ZIP code may be saved in your own browser’s local storage so the calculator remembers it; you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
“Use my location”
If you press “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission first. Your coordinates are sent only to the National Weather Service API to fetch your forecast and are never stored by us.
Cookies
We use a cookie consent tool to record your cookie choices. Essential cookies keep the site working. If we add analytics or advertising in the future, those cookies will only be set with your consent where required by law, and this policy will be updated.
Embedded videos
Some guides include YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode. The video only loads, and YouTube may set cookies, after you click play.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and performance. These logs are kept for a limited time.
Children
The site is for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including California, you may have rights to access or delete personal information. Because we do not store calculator inputs, there is usually nothing to delete. You can reach us through our contact page.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version.
